Happy Mothers Day
Hope all you moms have a wonderful day. :)
My day has been nice. I woke to breakfast in bed (the boys chose doughnuts LOL) and tasty coffee...yum. Then I read the paper and opened my gift. The boys (ah em, Donald...lol) got me a new Willow Tree figure. For those interested it's the 18 inch Home and Heart one. We had to do a walmart run and so I picked up the supplies for a french pedicure and I'm going to go and have a manicure in the not to distant future. So I can't complain I was spoiled this year.
I finished The Book Of Honor and have started on See No Evil interesting reading for sure.
My parents are coming next week. The reservations are made and I'm excited for them to arrive. I know the boys will be *so* happy to see them.
Our furniture was delievered and is now nicely filling up my living room here in the apartment. I love love love that chair and a half. Although I only get to sit in it when Donald is at work. ;)
Oh totally unrelated and funny (to me) Donald's uniforms are MADE IN MEXICO...seems a bit ironic no? (he is an agent with the border patrol, btw...see the humor/oddity now?)

So it's May 4th
I'm not good at this posting thing, huh? :) Granted I realize this isn't tantlizing tidbits that folks scramble to read on a daily basis, but still I need to be better about doing posting here.
The boys had their last storytime at the library last Monday. Our library has a really great storytime with crafts and such each week. I know they will miss it. I'm sad too that next year it won't be an option. /or it might be?/ Registration is in early Sept (prior to the 11th...Nathan's bday) Storytime is for preschoolers 3-5. Well, Nathan turns 6 on Sept. 11th this year. If it works like the deadline for getting into school, then he will still be 5 and so we are good. I would really like for them to be able to be enrolled again next year. Yes, I *could* let Daniel go to that one, and register Nathan for the ''after school'' one. But *really* I'm much prefer them being in the preschool one again. Something about Elijah being 2 for next years sessions. Or maybe dealing with Nathan not fully getting why he can't participate with the class when Daniel is doing his activities. Or maybe explaining to Daniel why he can't participate with Nathan's class when he goes (if it's a different class...the afternoon one) Maybe that sounds petty. And I"m sure some would think they need to learn life is not fair etc etc etc. Well, yes, yes, yes to all of that. BUT really I'm just hoping for another year in the preschool program.
We start ''summer school'' on Monday. Nathan and Daniel have both been asking to do more ''school work''. Monday we are going to start going through the basics...again. Really just concentraing (for Nathan) on writing upper and lowercase and phonics. Daniel will just be doing some worksheets with letters and numbers, because he really really really really really wants to do school. LOL Homeschooling is such a terrific option...such a wonderful opportunity. But at the same time it is also very challenging. My goal in homeschooling is not to mimic the public school ''system'' (think one subject per hour, rote memorization, tracking or teaching for a test) but I at the same time deal wanting my child to be 'just as smart' 'just as on target' 'just as ok' as your kiddo. I was reading recently on a message board that I frequent about a boy going in for his K assessment. This little boy is one month younger than Nathan. Which means his birthday is ''late'' and so he missed the cutoff for starting K last year by one month (Nathan missed by 10 days...if he were attending public schools) Anyway, this kid had to name letters and numbers (check), identify shapes and colors (check), cut out a straight line and a circle (check) AND write his name and address (uh-oh). Is it just me or does that seem a bit much for a kindergarden assessment??? Should Nathan really be able to write out our 4 line address??? Now, Nathan knows our address, our apartment # and the town we live in...but ummmm nope he can't write all that out, no way. Now, I shouldn't compare, I know. I shouldn't feel pressured for Nathan to know that. Deep down, I don't, but then I have that nagging in the back of my mind. The whole you are homeschooling so you have to make sure they can stand up to the test that are bound to happen. And dont' think it doesn't happen. Let someone find out you homeschool your children and suddenly they feel it their responsibility to quiz your children on what they know and don't know. They would NEVER consider quizzing a child attending a public or private school, ever. But all that aside. I keep remembering all the reasons I want to homeschool, and I keep spending time with my boys and seeing them learning and interacting everyday and I *know* they are on track. :)
[side note: I am one that fully believes in the legal and personal responsiblity of one that homeschools to do it correctly. It is my responsibility to make sure the boys are learning and on par with what is within the guidelines of their age.]
I just finished up "The Jericho Sanction" by Oliver North. It is the second in a three part series. I read the first one, "Mission Compromised'' last week. This is a new genre of reading for me, and I'm both suprised and excited to find it. I went tonight and checked out 4 books from the library. Two about John Walker (the American that was a spy for Russia) one by a CIA operative talking about his work and how the CIA's decline etc all feed into Sept. 11th 2001, and then another on the CIA's book of honor. Neat reading ahead.
As an update the wallet was found...yay. My furniture is FINALLY in and will be delievered tomorrow. Double YAY.
My parents are coming out at the end of the month (woooo hoooo) They are staying out on the island and want us to come out and stay with them. :) Thats always fun. My youngest brother mention they are going to try and come out this summer, and my oldest brother called last night and said he might come out in November for a few days. He didn't get drawn to hunt in Montanta this year and has the week for vacation and thought he'd come for a few days. We are planning to head to GA in October for a visit...so I don't know if he'll still come having just seen me the month before. LOL
I was reading today how the SBC (Southern Baptist Convention) is going to have a resolution at their convention in June, encouraging its membership to take their children out of the government schools. All I can say is AMEN. :)
More later...
